Your skilled trades career begins with Generation’s Machine Operator program. An experience-based curriculum teaches students how to manage industrial machinery to create quality output. The Machine Operator program also helps students develop professionalism, safety, math, and communication skills. All students receive a weekly stipend. After graduation, students in good standing will have the opportunity to interview for a position with Stanley Black & Decker.

    In-Person Interview

    Generation wants to support you and connect you to resources that will help you focus on learning. We will use this time to learn about your living situation, background, and child care needs. We'll also go over the program requirements, times, and dates of class.

  3. 1-2 hours 3

    Meet & Greet, Facility Tour

    Meet the instructor and program manager and get a tour of the Stanley Black & Decker factory. You'll receive the program handbook and fill out enrollment forms. The Generation team will help you understand what will happen over the course of the program and you'll participate in fun icebreakers!

  4. 4

    Class begins!

    Every day, you'll learn new skills to help you advance your career.


  • Have earned a high school diploma or GED
  • Be 18 years or older at the start of the program
  • Pass a background check
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Be able to lift 30 lbs

What is a Machine Operator?

Technology has changed the way we manufacture goods, and machine operators use computers and large, industrial machines to make the products we rely on in our daily lives. From power tools to security systems, a graduate of the machine operator program will have the knowledge they need to thrive in the skilled trades.

Leadership Opportunity: Become a Cohort Leader

During the second week of class, all students, mentors and instructors vote to select a Cohort Leader who will foster community among students and work closely with the city’s Alumni Ambassadors. Cohort Leaders represent Generation behaviors, skills, and mindsets. This person exhibits a high-level of professionalism, engagement with instructional content, and a strong interest in building relationships with fellow classmates. The voluntary Cohort Leader position provides a pathway to becoming an Alumni Ambassador. This position also provides visibility to partners and employers, as well, as national recognition, opportunities and involvement with Generation at a local and national level.

    As training progresses, you'll work with the Generation team on mock interviews and perfecting your resume.
