Our programs are built for those who are interested in launching a new career path. Applicants must meet the following requirements in order to apply:

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You have a high school diploma or GED, and do not currently have a post-graduate degree such as a Master’s degree.
  • You can provide proof of residency in the United States in the form of an official (U.S. local, state, or federal) issued government ID.
  • You have NOT already graduated from one of our programs (i.e., Junior Cloud Practitioner, Junior Full Stack, Digital Marketing Analyst, Junior Web Developer, IT Support Specialist). We would like to give others the opportunity to experience our tech programming.
  • You are motivated and excited to look for a new career, 3 months after you successfully completed our program.

If you are unsure if you meet the requirements to apply for a Generation program, simply begin your application so we can help determine your eligibility.

Yes. You will need to show proof of residency and authorization to work in the U.S. in the form of an official (U.S. local, state, or federal) issued government ID. At this time, we are unable to accept applicants who will require future visa sponsorship from an employer in the U.S.

No! Our programs are completely free for participants. We’re a non-profit organization, meaning we are dedicated to training and educating individuals, matching them to potential outcomes after graduation. Our program is delivered at no cost to our participants because of the generous support of philanthropic organizations and individuals.

Generation USA offers a variety of different programs depending on your location. You can see a complete list of programs here.

Located in Florida? There are additional non-tech training program options available for residents of selected cities in Florida. Interested in learning more about these options, please see here or reach out to us at jacksonville@generation.org.

You can submit an application on any of our program pages. You can also learn more about the process on our Admissions and Enrollment page here.

Applications to a cohort will close on the Wednesday, 2 weeks before the start of the program. Application closing dates will available on each of our program pages.

While you are learning technical skills, instructors are also teaching you soft skills, proven to help you succeed in your future career. Our Career Advancement team is available to help you prepare for your next steps after graduation and connect you to  resources and support for common barriers individuals face such as transportation and child care.

After your application is submitted, you will be notified whether you meet the eligibility criteria to participate. If you are eligible, you will be guided to continue along our application. Our Admissions and Enrollment team carefully assesses each application and makes admissions decisions based upon the entire application. Based on availability, Admitted Learners will then be guided through a cohort selection process.

I registered, but did not receive steps to move on?

Our registration stage is open to all interested applicants. Please be sure to use your legal name and a professional email address during this stage. If you have further questions or concerns about your registration status, please reach out to our team here at admissionsusa@generation.org.

I was deemed ineligible for the program, what are my next options?

Unfortunately, our eligibility criteria are fixed and we will not be able to move forward with your application. Please do not reapply to the program unless you were initially deemed ineligible for being under the age of 18. We will be happy to review your application again after reaching the minimum age!

Applicant wait time for an admissions decision is typically 7-10 business days. Be sure to add generationus@generation.org and admissionsusa@generation.org as a trusted sender to the email you provided when applying so it does not go into your spam or junk folder.

I was rejected during the application process, what are my options?

Unfortunately, if we are unable to move forward with your application, reapplying will not be an option. We receive a record number of applications and admissions decisions are very difficult, as there were many qualified candidates.

If there was an issue with your application or ID, our Admissions and Enrollment team will reach out to you about next steps. Please note our Admissions and Enrollment team carefully reads through each application individually and in its entirety.

I was Admitted into Generation USA programming, when will I hear about the cohort I selected?

If you do not live in or live near the cities mentioned above, you will receive an acceptance email confirming your seat in the cohort of your choice, no later than 2 weeks before the start of the cohort. If the cohort you selected is full, you will be notified via email and will be able to select another cohort.

You can return to the application here using the registered email address and password.

On any of the application stages, you can click on the “Ask Us” button to contact our admissions team. Alternatively, you can also directly email admissionsusa@generation.org.

Upon receiving your Admission to Generation, you will be guided through a Cohort Selection process. If you do not find a program option that fits your needs, you may select our “Waitlist” option. From the “Waitlist”, you will be automatically notified via email when new program options are open for selection.

NOTE: Please be sure to carefully review your selection beforehand, your options to switch cohorts afterwards will be very limited.

I have selected my cohort, but a conflict came up, what are my options?

Once submitting your cohort selection form, you cannot re-select again. If a cohort change is truly needed, please reach out to our Program Compliance team as they will walk you through a re-application process. Please note this does mean completing the entire application again. You may only be permitted to do this ONE time.

If you have a medical or family emergency causing your need for change, please reach out to our Program Compliance team and they will walk you through next steps.

Please connect with our Program Compliance team as needed here usprogramops@generation.org.

For our technical training accelerator  programs, we do not run background checks on any applicants. Other program options and post-program employment opportunities may have different requirements and please be sure to discuss any concerns with the Admissions and Enrollment team during the process.

We estimate it will take about 60 minutes total to complete all the stages. Remember, the entire application does not have to be completed at one time. You can always save and come back later.

The most common feedback received about the process is that it is easy and fast!

When you join a Generation program, our staff works with you to identify the next best steps for you after graduating. That could be seeking full-time employment, an internship, apprenticeship, or continuing your education. No matter which path you’re on, we help by exploring these options with you, working on your resume and interview techniques, and connecting you with Generation employer partners.

Generation doesn’t stop supporting our students upon graduation. Instead, you become a Generation USA alumni for life.

At Generation, we understand that you may need to work in order to support yourself or your family while attending one of our programs. Some of our programs are restricted to individuals who are only unemployed or underemployed (working less than 40 hours) while others are more flexible. In either scenario, we do require that you are available during class hours for live instruction. Please note, full-time programs require to be online and present for 40 hrs per week, while part-time programs require at least 9 hours per week.

The first day of program is very important and mandatory to attend. During this first day of class, you will receive all the necessary pieces for success in the program and missing this day will not be possible to make up.

Therefore, if you know you will miss Day 1, Please connect with our Program Compliance team here usprogramops@generation.org, and they can assist with next steps in choosing a new cohort.

If you miss Day 1 AND do not complete your required asynchronous work required before Day 2, you will be notified and removed from the cohort. You would be welcome to re-apply in 6 months. If an emergency situation occurred, please reach out to our Program Compliance team here usprogramops@generation.org.

Unfortunately, Generation does not allow Learners to be enrolled in multiple programs due to the time constraints that would put on a Learner. The vast majority of combinations would cause a direct overlap in class time. Additionally, even if a combination of class times themselves do not technically overlap, our asynchronous expectations would place Learners over 60hrs per week of MINIMUM course work and we do not allow for such a burden.

Current Student FAQs

If a class is canceled we will post a notification on our website, social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), and notify students by email.

Due to the high demand for cohort seats, there are very limited options to switching programs. Therefore, please make sure to carefully research and check program schedules before making your cohort selection.

If you need to change programs after selecting, please reach out to our Program Compliance team here: usprogramops@generation.org

You may be granted 1 opportunity to re-apply and choose a new cohort. Please note, this would mean going through the full process again. This is due to the cohort seats being taken off options for other Learners once you submit your Cohort Selection form. We cannot stress enough to please be sure before making your selection.

If you need to change cohorts for a medical or family emergency, please connect with our Program Compliance team for next steps as well.

Due to the high demand for cohort seats, there are very limited options to switching programs.

Switching cohorts will require officially withdrawing from your current cohort. It is not possible to switch into another cohort that is enrolling or has already begun. Please note that you are officially enrolled into the cohort the week before the cohort begins and given access to course systems. From this enrollment moment, the full process above is necessary.

If you need to withdraw from the program, you must wait 6 months before being eligible to re-apply to a new program. Please communicate all Withdrawals to our Program Compliance team at usprogramops@generation.org

If you need to change cohorts for a medical or family emergency, please connect with our Program Compliance team for next steps as well.
